The truth is probably in this account of the Barings collapse. For those who want to
explore the regulatory loopholes that permitted Leeson to act as he did and permitted
Barings to disclaim all knowledge or responsibility, then this is a good place to start.
It is interesting bedtime reading, but has no direct messages relevant to trading. Leesons
account highlights the role of greed and fear. Rawnsleys account concentrates on
the institutional ignorance that will bring down other institutions in the
future. Fay is a reporter, and this is a reporters account. Good reading.
